God-Driven Women Doing Life & Loving The Outdoors Together

Road Work

If you're from Wisconsin, then you know that "road work" is the most hilarious joke ever. There is no "road work season" here in my home state... THERE'S ALWAYS ROAD WORK! Seriously... I was driving to work this morning and I passed the usual orange "end road work" sign in the same place it always is. I KID YOU NOT, liiiiiterally a quarter mile after that, maybe less, there was another NEW orange sign that read "road work ahead". SERIOUSLY?!

Road work is a pain in the butt! It's usually bumpy, it's slow, suuper slow, crooked, different, and takes you on many detours. Sometimes road work is just during a season (like summer), and other times road work takes YEARS... and I mean years. It feels like a lifetime before I-90 is going to be finished, and that is EXACTLY how I feel right now.

Like many of you, I, myself am in a season of road work. I am under construction... My life is FULL OF DETOURS, but guess what? What I have come to learn is, life is an endless journey of detours and there is no way around them! You may think there is, but there isn’t. Take Sarah for instance (summary fo sho)… In Genesis, there’s a guy you have probably heard of named Abraham and he is married to a woman named Sarah. God promised them that they would have a son. Time and time again they tried to conceive, but they couldn’t… Both of them grew weary and frustrated because of this. SO, Sarah had an idea. They had a slave named Hagar. She told her husband to go sleep with Hagar and then if she had a son, they would claim it as theirs. WELL, Hagar had a son, but it didn’t work out as planned. That’s not what God intended… AND LIKE GOD PROMISED, Sarah DID end up getting pregnant and they had a son together (when they were super old)! The worlds standards of “normal” don’t exist within God’s limits because He is limitless. They may have thought it was impossible to conceive at such an old age, but with God, anything is possible.

Why do we always try to rush God’s timing?? ...really, do YOU have an answer? ...because THIS is my greatest struggle as a sinful human… UGH, and my dad wanted to name me “Patience” after the Guns N’ Roses song. GOOD JOKE! Because we suck. JK.. Sorta. We are mortal. We are humans. We are influenced by Satan and so many worldly things alllll of the time… I mean, you can’t rush road work, can you? Now, don’t get me started with the “county/state worker” jokes. I don’t agree with them, but some of them are quite funny. In all seriousness though, no, you can’t rush it. There’s a system. There are steps that have to be taken in order. Let me repeat that, IN ORDER. You can’t skip any of them in hopes to get to the end result quicker because if you do, it’ll all fall apart! The road you drive on is important and so is your life. Let me repeat that too… YOUR LIFE IS IMPORTANT. You aren’t in this world by accident. God made you for a reason and you have a purpose. YOU! You, you, you, you! You have a purpose and God has a plan. Just trust Him… & “praise Him in this storm”.

Are you in the midst of a season of construction? Let me tell you a bit more about mine. I was supposed to get married on NYE. THIS New Year’s Eve! Do you know how long I’ve been waiting and dreaming of my wedding day? How long I’ve waited and dreamt to pick out the dress, and how long I’ve waited and dreamt to start my own family?? FOREVER. I have waited for that day and season of my life since I was just ten years old. Guess what! Surprise! The wedding is off. It’s December and my mom and I are calling all of the family, guests, and canceling the vendors. In my head, I continuously catch myself thinking “How much longer, Lord? When will it be MY time?”. That is exactly what I should not be dwelling on. INSTEAD, I should be asking “What do you want me to learn? How do you want me to grow in this season instead?” It’s not all about us, people! There is a much greater purpose to everything out there. Life isn’t on OUR time; it’s on HIS.

So, I’m in a season of construction, and so are you. After this season is finished, another will begin. Why? Because… There is always room for improvement. There will always be sin to fight. There are people left that need to hear God through you. Life is an endless journey of detours and there is no way around them. You are going to have to start embracing the journey & praise Him in this storm. Ask God what He wants FOR YOU rather than what you think you should be getting from God?

Just WAIT:

W - WATCH God work in His ways.

A - ASK God about His promises.

I - INVITE God to work in your heart.

T - TRUST God to fulfill His plans.

Verses That Help Me

Jeremiah 1:5 - "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."

Well, there you have it! God thought about you. God planned for you. When you’re feeling down and invaluable, remember that God has always wanted you and has always had a purpose for YOU specifically. A purpose that He didn’t destine for anyone else.

Romans 8:28 - “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”

ALL things, not just thing good seasons of your life. God works the seemingly bad seasons for your life for good too! Evil and sin is all around our world, bad things happen, but you can count on Our Lord to turn every circumstance around for our long-range good. Remember though, He isn’t working to make us happy, He is working to fulfill His purpose.

Philippians 4:6-7 - “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Jesus Christ.”

When you start to worry, “stop, collaborate, and listen!” Actually, pray.. Stop & pray. God’s peace is so much different than the world’s peace. His peace doesn’t come from positive vibes or avoiding conflict. God’s peace comes from knowing that He is in control of our life, we have victory over sin, and we have a kingdom in Heaven waiting for us.

Psalm 46:10 - “Be still, and know that I am God.”

AKA “Chill, bruh, God’s got this” (I have this one tattooed on my wrist).

Proverbs 19:21 - “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”

I don’t think it can be put any better than that! We all have wants. God promises to fulfill our needs. Anything aside from that will only happen if God wants it to happen.

And so many more!
