Pushing The Limit

Updated: Nov 1, 2018

So, the other day as I was making my 45ish minute commute to work at 5:00AM, I thought about this… God’s Word tells us how to live. He tells us what to do, what not to do, how to do it, etc.. It’s allllll laid out. It’s the exact same with the actual roads we drive on in our life and the traffic rules, signs, and regulations that you see all around you every single day. These rules and signs aren’t meant to be a burden or make you anxious. They are meant to you keep you on your path and to keep you safe. SAME WITH GOD’S, GUYS.

Let’s focus on just speed limit signs for a moment. Bear with me... If we see a sign that says “55 MPH”, that means we are supposed to go 55 miles per hour. FIFTY-FIVE! Not 60, 65, or 70. When God tells you to do or not to do something, it doesn’t mean “push the limit and see how much you can get away with”. God means what he says. Crazy, right?! He IS the definition of truth after all.

Do you drive the speed limit? How many people do you think do? How many people do you think never go above or below? Both can be equally as bad at times…

Do you follow God’s Word? Are you saved? Do you think everybody is saved or just a few? How often do you willfully sin vs. accidentally sin? Do you doubt that God knows best?

Sadly, I believe that a minority of the human race is truly saved. I believe that there is a minority that actually daily seeks and pursues God, follows His Word, and has no other god(s) above Him. Similarly, I believe that very few people follow the speed limit exactly as it is posted. Most people in this world speed. Many people drive recklessly. Most people in this world willfully sin (everyone accidentally sins). Life happens. Why? Because free will. God made free will. He won’t FORCE anyone to love Him or respect Him. After all, if it’s forced, is it even respect or out of love?

Free will gets us in trouble, yes, but free will also makes everything worth having SO WORTH IT. You may drive the speed limit and follow all the laws, but others don’t. You may love God above all else and be as “perfect” as you can be, but not everyone is. Everyone makes their own choices and sometimes those choices affect you even though you’re doing it right. You can get ran off the road even if it isn’t YOUR fault. You can get ran off God’s road for your life by giving in to Satan’s many temptations. You may love (or think you love) God, but love something else more like a relationship, job, money, porn, a car… If you love something else more, you’re going to push the limit. You’re going to get off the road that is meant to keep you safe and sound. You are going to veer from God’s road and end up racing down a slippery slope just to realize that the farther you go down, the more difficult it is to get back on track and out of the Devil’s grasp. You know what though? It’s not impossible. If that’s you… If you think you’ve crashed… If you think God doesn’t want you back, you’re not worthy, you’re not loved… You. Are. Wrong. It is not impossible to fight sin and find your way back to God’s road. He loves you. He wants you. I LOVE YOU, AND I DON’T EVEN KNOW YOU. This is a sisterhood. We are a family. We are brothers and sisters through Christ and I want you help you navigate life. I want you to help me too.

Verses That Help Me

2 Timothy 3:16-17 - “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

God - The Bible - is our standard for testing everything else that claims to be true. IF we choose to read it and apply it, we MAY be THOROUGHLY equipped for EVERY good work. It’s free will, friends. It’s a choice. Everything is choice, and every choice we make even the seemingly minuscule ones is seen by God.

Ephesians 4:22-24 - “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

Wanna know something cool? YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Once you’re saved, THE HOLY SPIRIT LIVES IN YOU. HE IS THERE TO HELP YOU! You are going to be faced time and time and time again with Satan. Satan isn’t going down without a fight. He is going to tempt you all of the time. Wanna know another cool thing? I read the end of the Book - God wins. Each time you’re tempted to sin, you don’t have to say “no” alone. The Holy Spirit can help you discern right from wrong. We are ALL going to sin. We are human. We make mistakes. If you love God, you’ll repent for that mistake and try harder next time. He forgives us and He loves us. BUT… are you willfully sinning? Are you choosing to do wrong in God’s eyes?

I’m going on a rant, but who cares. Here’s a couple examples:

  • Accidental Sin Example: I am walking through my living room and stub my toe on the coffee table and then yell “F__K!” because it hurts so bad. That is an accidental sin. The swear word just comes out… I do not plan on it. Afterwards, if you really love God, you’ll feel sorry and repent. It’ll just be natural.

  • Willful Sin Example: How about watching porn and masturbating? That would be a willful sin because you have to choose to do it. There are many steps prior to the actual act of pressing play on the porn video and masturbation itself. You have to get on your computer, grab the mouse, start typing, etc..

1 Corinthians 10:13 - “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”

1. SUBMIT to God - pray, dig in His Word

2. RESIST the Devil/sin

2. The Devil will flee and that sin will get easier to overcome every time

Jeremiah 29:11-14 - “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,’ declares the Lord, ‘and will bring you back from captivity…’”

GOOD VIBES ERRYWHERE!

Zephaniah 3:17 - “The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in His love He will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”

Okay, first, how awesome would it be to hear God sing?! I can only imagine! Back to business, GOD IS A MIGHTY WARRIOR. He loves you and will welcome you back on His road with open arms, love, and joy!
