God, Guns, & Bows
Updated: Aug 30, 2018
I love the outdoors... obviously. I finished reading Romans last week and started reading Acts. In Acts 2, Peter talks to a bunch of people. He sticks up for God and tells them about how Jesus has the authority to send THEEE HOLY SPIRIT and that the results of that are right in front of them! They’re seeing and hearing them right now! The people believed and were cut to the heart. They asked, “Brothers, what shall we do???” THEY initiated and ASKED. You and I both know, assskiiing isn’t the difficult part... it’s following through. FOLLOWING THROUGH makes all the difference especially when we are following through with something that is not necessarily what we want to do or is easy. They asked & Peter answered, “Repent AND be baptized.”... After that, in just ONE DAY, 3,000 PEOPLE FOLLOWED THROUGH and were baptized! That’s awesome!! Atta boy, Peter!!!
Turn from sin & turn to Christ. I have difficulty comprehending what I read sometimes so I relate it to something I am passionate about and understand thoroughly. Here’s what went on in my head while reading Acts 2... Of course, it involved guns and bows... When shooting, you may do everything perfect for a 100% accurate shot, BUT if you don’t follow through, you could miss your target. It was a habit of mine when learning to shoot to not follow through and to be in a hurry/not relaxed. A sniper told me, “don’t look away right after your shot or you’re going to veer just a little and it’ll be enough to miss your mark.”. MIND BLOWN, it clicked! It may not seem like much, but simply following through correctly by maintaining the same form (prayer - praise - TRUST - patience - meditation) instead of looking up right away (looking for results - rushing the process - being impatient - not relaxed or content) can make all the difference in the accuracy of your destination.
I don't know what you're going through right now, but we are all going through something. Maybe you're in a relationship and you want to rush getting married or starting a family. Maybe you are trying to start a business, but it's harder than you thought and you constantly face discouragement and disappointments. Maybe you're just trying to create something super neat that you found on Pinterest and you're getting frustrated and losing your cool because no matter what you do, it doesn't look like the picture. Whatever IT is, please, don't rush it. I am Queen Impatience. I have rushed so many things in my life and took them into my own hands because I thought Little ol Me could do it better and quicker than Big ol God. Whatever IT is, try to find peace in THIS moment because life really does go by quickly when you look back and we may not know how all of these puzzle pieces fit together, but God does. There's a reason why we each go through everything we go through. Do your part and follow through.
Verses That Help Me:
Ecclesiastes 7:8 - “The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride.”
Whoa, whoa, whoa… there’s that patience word again. I really don’t like that word because it is the most condemning for me personally. I NEED MORE PATIENCE (there will be a blog on that coming up - stay tuned)!!
Back to following through - finishing what we start takes hard work! You need wise guidance, self-discipline, and p.a.t.i.e.n.c.e. Vision is nothing but an unfinished project unless you follow through.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 - “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
The tools are in our tool belt, but it is up to us to use them. The servant of God MAY be thoroughly equipped, BUT… you must read it AND APPLY IT. The Bible is truth.
Revelation 14:12 - “This calls for patient endurance on the part of the people of God who keep his commands and remain faithful to Jesus.”
Endurance - It’s not going to be easy. Life isn’t meant to be easy. Anything that's easily obtained is usually fleeting and doesn’t mean as much in the end. Trust God to give you patience when you need it, and obey Him even when obedience is unattractive to your human desires.
Psalm 78:57 - “Like their ancestors they were disloyal and faithless, as unreliable as a faulty bow.”
A warped and deceitful bow will not respond to the archer’s aim. If God does His part, but you don’t do yours, you will miss your mark.
